Day 3 - Do it anyway

"I don't feel like exercising today!" Does this sound familiar? There are things we do all day long that we don't feel like doing. If we waited to feel like doing them, they probably wouldn't get done. This concept really tests your committment or interest. If you are committed you will just do it no matter what. If you are interested you will wait until a better time comes along...and most of the time it never comes. The things we do anyway are the things we consider important. On days you're not in the mood for exercising or eating right, tell yourself to do it anyway. If you are really committed to your goals, you'll make these choices no matter what, regardless of whether you feel like it or not. Remember that when you are truly committed, you DO IT ANYWAY.
This day's lesson really speaks to me about exercising. I used to use the time excuse and exhaustion excuse until recently I looked at how much time I am just sitting around watching tv at night. I honestly have a show or more each night of the week (M-Th) that I watch or record. That is alot of time....some of which I could be working out. And as far as being exhausted at the end of the day, yes some days I am not sure I could jog on the treadmill. So far, I have survived to tell the story. The exercise specialist at my program told me to just commit to 10 minutes and you can stop after that. Usually you will keep going because most of the time you really aren't as tired as you think. Sometimes, yes you are and at least you moved for 10 minutes.
TODAY:
In your diet or exercise plan, identify a task you don't feel like doing, and then do it anyway!
Notice how it feels to accomplish a goal by taking a "no matter what" approach
In your notebook make a list of actions you plan to stick with today, regardless of how you feel at the moment.

Nice summary. I, too, like the 10 minute rule.

Of all my house chores, I dislike vacuuming. So I set a day each week in my head that is vacuuming day and do it right after breakfast... I just do it anyway.

My body is more important than my carpets. Although chopping up a salad is timeconsuming, today I'll do it anyway.

Good summary Amy. I like the "at least 10 min." idea. The list of interested vs. commited items at the end of the reading struck me too.
Number 3 on the interested list really hits home for me, "Need to see results in order to stay motivated". I need to replace that thinking with number 3 on ther commited list, "Assume that if they stay motivated, results will follow".

I have decided to eat nothing standing up. I read this on his site somewhere and think it might cure my nibbling. I will go for the 'no matter what approach' for the long haul and not just for today.
I will take right actions whether I feel like it or not. The day is half over and I haven't exercised yet because of the cold and other distractions. I choose to go and do something about it NOW.

This is always a powerful message! I need to be better about making quality time for exercise. It's easy to get on this site and while away time too much too and then I "don't have time" to exercise!

A difficult task for me has always been situps - I just hate doing them. But this morning I woke up determined to have a great start today. So after I did some aerobics I did 100 situps - it wasn't easy but I feel much better now.

Exercise at this time is difficult due to my hip and back .I'm eager to get back to the gym though. In my head I have it all mapped out and I just now want to carry it out. I want to rush my recovery but I am learning I can't.
Today I am sore but I am going to do some floor exercises and then stretches for my muscles. Everday I should do some form of exercise even though it may not be as intense or vigorous like I want it to be. Any movement is good movement.

ODAT goals for today that I will stick with NO MATTER WHAT since I have to do it anyway:
~Put pedometer on and do at least 2 loads of laundry. (I am on the third floor and machines are in the basement.)
~Eat a healthy lunch. No ordering out like normal Saturday afternoons.
~Make dinner that I have planned for later and then load the dishwasher right after like last night.

I don't feel like walking today, but I'm going to do it anyway.
I don't feel like being diligent with my water intake, but I'm going to do it anyway.

I agree, the 10 minute commitment is a great idea for the reasons you mention. I also appreciate and relate to comparing good choices to going to work or changing a diaper. This is a great way to look at it. My job is to take care of myself and do whatever steps are necessary to make that happen.

This is one of my favorite "days!" it's so true for me - just b/c I don't FEEL like exercising or making healthy food choices doesn't mean I CAN'T make those choices! Today I really didn't want to go to the gym before I started tackling my large home-project for the day, but after reading your post, Amy, I was reminded that I just need to DO IT ANYWAY!! Thanks, friend! I just got back from a fantastic workout!

For me that first 10 min. is the most difficult. After that I start to feel good and I can usually go on. I am trying to increase my time, so each day I add 5 min. as I am heading to 45 min. If I miss a day or two I go back 5 min. or more but always do the 10. I read while I exercise on my air walker so that helps with boredom.

I was pretty motivated today. I took a one hour water aerobics class and then swam laps for 20 minutes. I did a lot of house work and stayed on track. There was a small window where I didn't feel like working out, it was snowing out and it would have been easy to stay home, but I got out in the cold and made it happen. I did some grocery shopping tonight and have logged most of the food in my favorites.

The lesson today is important for me because during the work week it is so easy to make excuses and drive straight home without working out and I have to realize that sometimes I do need to just do it anyway so that I feel good like I did today. Hopefully the time I spend I will continue to see results.

Today I didn't feel like working out but I did it anyway. I will continually remind myself of these two phrases, "I'm going to Do It Anyway, because I'm COMMITED"

Ironic thing was that it's day 3 for me, and I really didn't want to get up and do my step aerobics. I just wanted to roll over and go back to sleep. And yet, I did it anyways, and I felt amazing afterward. It also made me feel great when I got on and read my day three article. It just pushed me even more to stay on my diet.

I hope everyone is starting to understand how this works, everyone takes a turn and reads out of a book or on line, they copy and past the information from Linda S. book of 100days then they write a few words on their own behalf. Everyone has a voice, Everyone has a role in this losing weight as a team you can all concur 100days! If your not sure, go back in the community history and see how others have make this group work. or you can even use the past info like I am doing to educate you on how to use the book and how the Group on SYD used it. it has been Revised many times along the way, and in that society changes so does the program.
