Here is a place where we can talk about self-care! These are the months where life seems to get so busy we are pushing through to get everything done and it's easy to neglect our own well-being. Hopefully having this space will be a tangible reminder to take time to nurture ourselves.
"Self-care is a multifaceted approach to well-being that goes beyond the simple indulgences of a spa day or a favorite meal. It's a structured way to look after every aspect of yourself, ensuring that you remain physically, mentally, emotionally, socially, spiritually, and intellectually fulfilled." (I can't credit this because I lost the source)
It may be something as simple as sipping hot tea while watching the rain fall or as difficult as saying no when asked to do something. It could be finally getting that mammogram or finally getting that massage! Our versions of self care may be different, but they are all equally important!
I'm posting early so we can start thinking about ways we can take time for ourselves. I'm posting this on both sites so we can have this thread wherever we are. If we like it and it stays active, I'll start a new one each month, if not, that's fine too!
Let's be our own best friend!ðŸ'-

Count me in - self care is important! I'm going to give some thought as to what self care goals I want to set out for myself for September!

Yay!

My biggest act of self-care for the day was insisting my husband not buy me any chips when he went to our little local grocery store this morning. He loves going and picking out a few things for himself since I do all the major grocery shopping and every freaking time he feels the need to come home with a "treat" for me. I have asked him repeatedly not to do this because I will, indeed, eat whatever he brings home. This morning I was very firm and told him how serious I was, and he came home without a treat for me! And honestly, I do understand how hard that was for him to do, he is very much a gift giver as an act of love so it feels wrong for him to not come home with anything for me. What he doesn't realize is that he really did give me a gift by not getting me a gift.

| |
Joan Replied:
When gifts are his love language, that would be hard for him. Good for you for being firm!
I ate healthy today and will pamper my skin tonight. As for tomorrow, I'll figure out some pampering for then, too!

Way to go! Taking care of our skin is so important, I need to get better about this.

I've had such a nice day outside working on my hosta hill. It does me good to do things like that, it's good for my soul. Then I came in and soaked in the tub and after that I did a skin care routine that I always skip so that felt good.

| |
Joan Replied:
Sounds lovely, Lyn!

Joan Replied:
Today my self-care plan is to do some decluttering - I think I'm a minimalist hoarder lol. I hate clutter but I have a hard time getting rid of stuff! I'm going to spend less time scrolling and playing games on my tablet!
|

| |
Lynâ¤ï¸ðŸ’›ðŸ’šðŸ’™ðŸ’œ Replied:
I 100% understand what you mean by minimalist hoarder! I am the same way. My mom, on the other hand, was a full on hoarder. After cleaning out their house I vowed to never put my kids in that situation, it was a nightmare. But I do resonate with minimalist hoarder and I would like to actually label things or make some kind of list with pictures for my kids so that when the time comes and they are going through my things they will know what came from where. We found amazing treasures at my parents house but we don't know the stories behind them. I can at least let them know what used to be their grandma and grandpas stuff and the stories behind the things I know.
|

| |
Joan Replied:
That would be a wonderful thing to do for your kids! I wish you success in doing it!
I managed to do a bit of decluttering today. Also took time to sit out on the deck drinking a sparkling water. Later I had a cup of herbal tea while trying to figure out what to declutter next!

You're on it, well done! I didn't do much in the way of self-care yesterday. I had one of those non-stop days and collapsed at the end but today I hope to have a little me time.
|

| |
Joan Replied:
Some days are just too busy, but hopefully today will give you some time for you!
|

| |
Lynâ¤ï¸ðŸ’›ðŸ’šðŸ’™ðŸ’œ Replied:
I had a long and fast paced day but I ended it with a bubble bath and it was exactly what I needed.
|

| |
Joan Replied:
For reasons unknown, I developed a pain that goes down through my right shoulder, my right ribs and down to the hip. No idea what.triggered it, but I'm trying to take it easy - I think that would qualify as self care!
|

| |
Lynâ¤ï¸ðŸ’›ðŸ’šðŸ’™ðŸ’œ Replied:
Oh my! I sure hope you figure out what's going on and that it goes away quickly! And yes, taking it easy is definitely self-care. And it sounds easier than it is!
|

Diane Replied:
I am back blogging here again. I am going to get on the treadmill. I did some exercises for the core. I have found that walking helps me relax and unwind.
|

| |
Joan Replied:
Today I'm going to listen to some health podcasts from my "watch later" list.
|

| |
Lynâ¤ï¸ðŸ’›ðŸ’šðŸ’™ðŸ’œ Replied:
Today I went outside and cut myself a few bouquets to put around the house. I love having fresh flowers.
|

| |
Joan Replied:
The day has just begun, but I did do some extra skin care this morning
|

| |
Joan Replied:
Just spent some time out on the deck, enjoying the sunshine and the peace and quiet. Then the magpies decided to have a party lol!
|

| |
Lynâ¤ï¸ðŸ’›ðŸ’šðŸ’™ðŸ’œ Replied:
The magpies were having their own self-care day! LOL
|

| |
Joan Replied:
Yes they were, Lyn!
|

Lynâ¤ï¸ðŸ’›ðŸ’šðŸ’™ðŸ’œ Replied:
I had a great weekend filled with self-care, it was wonderful!
|

| |
Joan Replied:
Sitting here sipping my mug of hot decaf coffee. Looking out the window at grey skies and heavy rain. It's only 9C out there! My self-care today is not going outside
|

| |
Lynâ¤ï¸ðŸ’›ðŸ’šðŸ’™ðŸ’œ Replied:
That sounds wonderful, Joan! I'm about to make myself a hot tea. Of course, it's still hot here (Southern Illinois) but I'm pretending it's cool out there. LOL
|

| |
Joan Replied:
Lyn, I wish I could send you a bit of our "cool" and you could send me a bit of your "warmth" LOL!
|

| |
Lynâ¤ï¸ðŸ’›ðŸ’šðŸ’™ðŸ’œ Replied:
Wouldn't that be wonderful!!!
|

| |
Joan Replied:
Had a lovely, relaxing evening sitting around the fire pit with family last night. That definitely feels like self care!
|

| |
Joan Replied:
To me, this counts as self care lol. I'm going to the dentist today for the first of two visits to replace a broken crown. It's not fun but it will make me feel better knowing it's getting fixed! After the dentist, I'm going to do some clothes shopping because everything is falling off of me - that could be embarrassing 😳! And getting clothes that fit properly is definitely self care!
|

| |
Lynâ¤ï¸ðŸ’›ðŸ’šðŸ’™ðŸ’œ Replied:
Both of those are definitely self-care! It will ease your mind so much to have the dentist stuff taken care of. I hope you found some great new clothes!
|

| |
Joan Replied:
Thanks, Lyn! The dentist visit went well and I go back in 1 week to get the new crown "installed". The clothes shopping was unsuccessful - I hadn't been in that shop before and I didn't care for their styles or their prices 😳 so I will try again today!
|

| |
Lynâ¤ï¸ðŸ’›ðŸ’šðŸ’™ðŸ’œ Replied:
Shopping for clothes gets harder the older I get! I hope you have better luck today!
|

| |
Lynâ¤ï¸ðŸ’›ðŸ’šðŸ’™ðŸ’œ Replied:
I ordered myself a new purse tonight, it's been years since I've done that. It feels good! I've also recently ordered myself new underwear, bralettes, a coat and some clothes. It feels really good, it's been way too long.
|

| |
Joan Replied:
That's great, Lyn - enjoy your new items! I have managed to get some tops and pants but it hasn't been easy lol. I need to find some new stores!
